Compliant pin technology has stood the test of time by providing press-fit connections that withstands thermal shock, vibration and humidity. Onanon has improved this 20-year old technology so that their compliant pins slide smoothly into plated thru-holes, a major breakthrough in this tried and tested green technology that makes it even more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Smooth Sliding, Fast Holding Compliant Pin Connector
Onanon’s innovations in compliant pin technology are made possible by their highly automated close tolerance milling manufacture. “In the prior technology, an oval ’eye of the needle’ hole was punched into a pin. When this pin inserted into a plated thru-hole, the ’eye of the needle’ compressed with a spring force that held the pin snug,” said Dennis Johnson, CEO of Onanon. “Now, by precisely engineering the curvature of the hole and pin, we can guarantee that the contact force is more than sufficient to maintain contact in the harshest environments, but not so great as to produce excessive insertion force.”
Limiting the insertion force allows easy insertion of connectors with a large number of pins. It also eliminates particulate debris from being scraped from the plated thru-hole and increases the number of reinsertion cycles to over a thousand.
Compliant Pins Eliminate Many PCB Manufacturing Issues
The rapid increase in chip performance, density, mixed signal level type and frequency has placed increasing demands on printed circuit board (PCB) manufactures.
